Since launching as ‘High Heels and Horse Hair’ at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe we have firmly rooted our place in the Scottish chamber music scene, performing creative collaborative projects in concert halls, public spaces, schools and gardens around Scotland and holding the post of CMS ensemble in residence from 2013-15.

 

Our artistic journey has revealed an innate desire to use music to explore the world around us, inviting greater engagement and connection with our natural environment. 

 

For us connecting with the environment begins at home, and we are committed to championing Scotland’s music and nature. We relish being involved in the creation of new work and have commissioned composers across a range of genres; we also love sharing little-known Scottish works from previous centuries with today’s audiences.

 

Our recitals aim to inspire and inform: Goethe described chamber music as “rational people conversing”, and we want to bring the audience into the conversation with an intimate performance that travels beyond notes on the page. In the past we have utilised lighting, performance in the round, photography and narration to this end.

 

We strongly believe that everyone should have access to live performance and our role as music educators is central to our identity. In 2019 we performed to over 400 students in schools across the central belt, and whenever possible we like to tie in workshops in schools and community settings alongside our recital tours.
